around Aschau in Zillertal
The Zillertalbahn (Zillertal train) with its steam engine is of course one such highlight. The train traverses the valley at a slow and relaxing speed.
A lot is to be seen and experienced in Zell am Ziller, the nearby village! One can witness the history of mining and gain insight into the lives of miners in the Goldschaubergwerk, a museum gold mine near Zell. The fairground in Zell sports an ice-skating arena in winter that is used as a tennis court in summer, a bowling alley, indoor tennis, a playground, a public pool, mini golf, a beach volleyball court as well as a football pitch.
Further destinations to explore nearby Aschau are a hike to the Maxhütte or the Schlegeis-Stausee, a drive high above the valley on the Zillertaler Höhenstraße, the Erlebnissennerei Zillertal, the BrauKunstHaus Zell or Natureispalast Tux. Active people are also offered a lot in Zillertal.
